In the Aztec Capital, Tlacaelel, the Head Adviser, is busy reshaping the island-city to fit its rapidly changing status from a regular city-state to a true capital, an owner of provinces and tributaries. The old system is not working anymore, but Tlacaelel’s radical reforms and changes anger influential people, from priests to elders of districts, those whose power is dwindling due to his reforms
During a ballgame being held between Texcoco and Mexica teams to celebrate the upcoming winter festival—a fierce competition that will add much honor to the winning city-state—one of the players, Coatl, a promising warrior, the Texcoco Warlord’s son, is prepared to do anything in order to win. What he was not prepared for was becoming entangled in a political intrigue that starts while he is busy chasing a pretty girl, with the unexpected arrival of his twin brother complicating matters even further.
The Triple Alliance The Rise of The Aztecs Book 7 edition by Zoe Saadia Literature Fiction eBooks
This is the third book in The Triple Alliance Trilogy, part of several books in this pre-Mesoamerican Saga. The emphasis shifts from the characters of the past to the offspring, who began to emerge as dominant characters in the prior book, The Sword. In Below the Highlands, three of the Highlander’s children step into the spotlight to push the story forward.Coatl is the golden boy. He’s been to the best of schools, received the best of training, runs faster, and has greater strength than his peers. He also is the star ball player.
Ocelotl is Coatl’s wilder twin, having spent the past several years in the Highlands where his father grew up. He is the most like his father, already an established scout, a developing artist, and a fierce warrior.
Citlalli is the twins’ sister, a spirited young woman who expresses her opinion and stands up for what she believes.
The three siblings have been separated, but unite unexpectedly in Tenochtitlan . Coatl arrives with the Texcoco players to participate in a ball game against the talented Tenochtitlan team. Citlalli attends the game as a spectator. Ocelotl arrives from the Highland, unaware his twin brother and beloved sister are in area.
Ocelotl establishes himself as the star of the game, but immediately lands himself in trouble after an enticing girl in the market catches his eye. The twins dive deeper and deeper into trouble, initially because of Coatl’s attraction to the market girl. They uncover a plot by some of the local religious and market leaders to murder the emperor and Tlacaelel, the head advisor to the emperor, and one of the Highlander’s best friends.
Great intrigue follows as the plot unfolds. The Highlander’s siblings exhibit their father’s spirit and resolve. They’re brave and resourceful, and take on each challenge in a manner that would make their father proud.
I read this last book in the series much like somebody blessed to be on an extended vacation, and does not want it to end. While most the characters of the past don’t make an appearance in this book, their footprints are everywhere.
Ms. Saadia appears uncertain if this is the last book in the series. My guess is other books will emerge, as the storyline possibilities are endless. For what it’s worth, my vote is for more books following the Highlander’s kids. Perhaps Mixtli and the youngest brother can step forward in the next book (s)?
This pre-Mesoamerican Saga would make a great series for HBO or Showtime.

The Triple Alliance The Rise of The Aztecs Book 7 edition by Zoe Saadia Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
In my opinion, this series outshines all the rest of Zoe's writings. Her attention to detail, combined with her astute understanding of human interaction, makes her books a joy to read.
I was sorry to end the story. Much more could be told. And why not tell it. Please continue the life line Zoe.
I really like this series! I find the world that Saadia has created very fascinating and she has done a good of taking what is known and adding to it to create a compelling story
This series must continue! I want to know what happens in the lives of these wonderful people! Really looking forward to the Pre-Aztec series. Zoe weaves wonderful stories with history. She is one of my favorite authors!
The last book in this series and now I am lost... I have read all of Zoe Saadia's books and will have to wait for the next adventure. She is a great writer and I have enjoyed reading them all.. Keep up the good work.
I am an amateur student of histories, mainly of European, Egyptian, and Mediterranean cultures. As I know only the broad outline of Mesoamerican history, I was intrigued with this series set in the pre-Aztec central Mexica area. Have to say, I was very satisfied with every book in the series (I believe a total of 9 or 10 books in all).
The stories are gripping, exciting, and, I assume, historically accurate (in the broader themes) as proscribed by this well written author. I look forward to more of her work, especially anything about pre-conquest Mesoamerica.
Sad to see the series end. Hoping the author writes more about these amazing cultures, people, and historic events. I have read the entire series starting with The Warriors Way, and have enjoyed every page. Thank you Zoe for your diligence in researching facts and you ability to make the people come alive.
